Benoît Lachambre

In 1996 BENOÎT LACHAMBRE (CN) founded his own Compagnie Par B.L.eux in Montréal: »B.L.« for Benoît Lachambre, and »eux« for »they«, meaning the artists he works together with, and who more and more influence his work. He multiplies these artistic encounters and creative exchange in collaborations with numerous internationalen choreographers and artists of various disciplines, such as Boris Charmatz, Sasha Waltz, Marie Chouinard, Louise Lecavalier, and frequently with Meg Stuart and the musician Hahn Rowe; in 2003, together with the latter he developed one of his masterworks, Forgeries, Love and other Matters, which in 2006 won the renowned Bessie Award .

Benoît Lachambre is one of the most important artists and choreographers of his generation. Since the foundation of Par B.L.eux, he has created 16 works (e.g.., Délire Défait 1999,100 Rencontres 2005, Is you Me 2008), participated in over 20 other productions, and choreographed 25 commissioned works, such as I is memory (a solo for Louise Lecavalier, 2006) and JJ’s Voice for the Cullberg Ballet in Stockholm 2010.

Par B.L.eux embraces experimental techniques and approaches in dance (releasing, improvisation, composition, body consciousness) for which Benoît Lachambre is renowned, thanks to his workshops and teaching activities around the world. His skills are very much in demand and these workshops often serve as a springboard for the discovery of his works. More than sixty workshops have been given in fifteen years, in such places as Tanz Im August (Berlin, Germany), ImPulsTanz (Vienna, Austria), Circuit Est and Usine C (Montréal, Canada), P.A.R.T.S (Brussels, Belgium), SNDO (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and l’Atelier de Paris – Carolyn Carlson (Paris, France).
